Chapter 5A

Jasper James Hunt

1794 - 1824

Mariner

Jasper James Hunt was born in the early hours of the morning of the 23rd March 1794 in Holborn, England the fourth son of Charles North Hunt and Mary Hughes Place. He was baptised on the 14th May 1794 at Mr Longs, Cold Bath Fields, Holborn, London by the Reverend W Darcy of Clerkenwell, London, England. Mr Archer of High Street, Bloomsbury and Mr Hide of Staple Inn were godfathers. (Ref: Yvonne Hunt; Hunt Family Bible.)

He died when he was lost at sea in 1824 and probate was declared on the 4th October August 1824. He had written his will  prior to his departure on the ship "Rainbow" under the name "James Williams" and he had left everything to his brother Charles North Hunt who was executor. Most of his will is illegible due to ink blotting.

Records show that he had departed on the 21 June  1817 to NSW on the ship "Harriet" bound for NSW and he was Second Officer. In July of 1822 he had travelled to Batavia, East Indies on the ship "Phoenix". We currently have no further information on Jasper James Hunt.
